Worship Round Up
Friday 28th February 2025
Our weekly round-up aims to support our parents in the conversations that they are having at home with their children. Each week, we will share the themes of each of our worships and any resources that we have been using, such as: videos, books and music, to allow our parents to access these if they wish to. Our weekly worship is structured in the following way:
- Monday Worship Focus: Values Focus led by Mrs Evans who revisits one of our core values — Commitment, Courage and Love.
- Tuesday Worship Focus: 'Women in STEM’ led by class teachers using 'Great Women who Worked Wonders' by Kate Pankhurst;
- Wednesday Worship Focus: ‘What’s happening in the world this week?’ led by Mrs Griffin and focusing on key events that are taking place in the world currently;
- Thursday Worship Focus: Singing led by Mrs Walker;
- Friday Worship Focus: Celebration led by Mrs Gnanasri to celebrate the team points winners for the week and achievements from both inside and outside school with the pupils.
Monday's Worship
In worship on Monday, we reflected on the message in 1 Samuel 16:7: "But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” We looked at a news story about a girls' football team in York who have launched a campaign called: 'Girls can have short hair. Get over it!' We thought about why they may ahve started this campaing, why we sometimes judge others on only appearances and what we can do to make sure that we see beyond just appearances and celebrate each person's value. We reflected on the message in the passage that judging people on looks alone can overlook their true value, and that we are called upon to see beyond appearances and treat one another with dignity, love and kindness. We closed worship by reflecting on the message that we are all valued, loved and included in God's family.
Tuesday's Worship
On Tuesday, we continued our series looking at Women in STEM. This week, we spent time celebrating Katherine Johnson. Katherine Johnson was a mathematician who helped NASA send astronauts into space! She was so good at maths that she helped calculate the paths for rockets and even helped land people on the Moon. At a time when not many women, especially black women, were given important jobs in science, she proved how amazing she was. Her work helped make space travel possible, and she became a hero in history! After this, we prayed about how we can show some of Katherine’s values—courage, commitment, and love—in our own lives.
Wednesday's Worship
On Wednesday we read the story The Peaceful Lion and the Nagging Crow. The story talks about how we respond to people who are trying to upset, frustrate and get an undesirable reaction from us . We talked about what we can do in these situations to maintain the peaceful state that we want to remain in. At the end of the story the Nagging Crow was so impressed with the Peaceful Lion's choices that he eventually choose to be the Calm Crow. We prayed and asked God to help us in challenging situations remain peaceful and to not be the one who nags others.
Thursday's Worship
Singing Worship:
This week, we sang Seek Ye First in two parts as a beautiful round. We also learned a new song: Gift of Life, which has fast rapped verses and a sung chorus.
We began to recap our Easter songs, starting with Easter Jubilee.
Friday's Worship
During Friday's worship in class, we shared the team points winners for the week - Year 2 for the class winners and Rubies for the team points - awarded the 'hot chocolate awards' given for demonstrating love in our actions and celebrated some of our pupils' achievements from outside of school. We started discussing how we can also earn our bronze SPARK book award soon! We had some beautiful reflections on how we can already get involved in the SPARK book awards with our poetry competition and classes spent time getting creative on some poetry. Reception, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4 had their author visit from Hannah Shaw; she was able to share her writing and illustrating process. Hannah led them in a draw-along and the children's creativity flourished.
