Worship Round Up
Friday 9th May 2025
Our weekly round-up aims to support our parents in the conversations that they are having at home with their children. Each week, we will share the themes of each of our worships and any resources that we have been using, such as: videos, books and music, to allow our parents to access these if they wish to. Our weekly worship is structured in the following way:
- Monday Worship Focus: Values Focus led by Mrs Evans who revisits one of our core values — Commitment, Courage and Love.
- Tuesday Worship Focus: 'Women in STEM’ led by class teachers using 'Great Women who Worked Wonders' by Kate Pankhurst;
- Wednesday Worship Focus: ‘What’s happening in the world this week?’ led by Mrs Griffin and focusing on key events that are taking place in the world currently;
- Thursday Worship Focus: Singing led by Mrs Walker;
- Friday Worship Focus: Celebration led by Mrs Gnanasri to celebrate the team points winners for the week and achievements from both inside and outside school with the pupils.
Tuesday's Worship
In Tuesday's worship, we revisited the school of fish and what we can learn from them. We reflected on the message in 1 John 3:18: "My children, our love should not be just words and talk; it must be true love, which shows itself in action" and I introduced the idea of the 'Boomerang of Kindness'. We watched this video: Kindness Boomerang and counted how many acts of kindness it took before it came back round to the person who started the 'boomerang' off. We considered whether we should only show acts of kindness when they are shown to us and whether we should show kindness even in the face of unkindness? We closed worship by thinking about acts of kindness that we could show in school to start the boomerang off.
Wednesday's Worship
On Wednesday , we reflected on the importance of VE and VJ day for us today. Our faith reps asked us to reflect on the meaning of VE and VJ day (Victory in Europe and Victory in Japan) and why it is still significant today. We discussed how the actions of many soldiers and families allowed countries to feel peace. We thought about how the royal family also acted as role models to the rest of country by modelling working together and showing empathy. We then looked at what peace meant to us in school and where we felt it. We looked at having calm and quiet places where we are listened to and how this helped us to feel peaceful. We then also reflected on when we do not feel peace and what we can do to find peace in these moments. We closed in a prayer shared by the Southwark Diocese which helped us to acknowledge the sacrifices of soldiers int he past and present as well as peace and unity today.
Thursday's Worship
This week, we learned a new song called Supernovas. Supernovas are powerful and luminous explosions of stars, which can often outshine entire galaxies. The song describes how we can be supernovas. Children suggested ways in which this could be a good thing: shining brightly, standing out, leading the way and spreading ourselves in useful ways in the world. We also sang the song Friendship Makes a Beautiful World, which we will be singing at the school summer fair on 7th June.
Friday's Worship
During Friday's worship, we shared the team points winners for the week - Year 4 for the class winners and Rubies for the team points - awarded the 'hot chocolate awards' given for demonstrating love in our actions and celebrated some of our pupils' achievements. We considered what it means to be a community in our school and how we have the opportunity to share and lift each other up. We explored a philosophical story about a community of fisher-people whose livelihoods depend on a river that dries up, which explores the concept of ownership of natural resources and whether they can be shared and even stole
n. We thought about how a community flourishes when we share resources such as time, space and empathy for one another.
