Worship Round Up
Friday 7th March 2025
Our weekly round-up aims to support our parents in the conversations that they are having at home with their children. Each week, we will share the themes of each of our worships and any resources that we have been using, such as: videos, books and music, to allow our parents to access these if they wish to. Our weekly worship is structured in the following way:
- Monday Worship Focus: Values Focus led by Mrs Evans who revisits one of our core values — Commitment, Courage and Love.
- Tuesday Worship Focus: 'Women in STEM’ led by class teachers using 'Great Women who Worked Wonders' by Kate Pankhurst;
- Wednesday Worship Focus: ‘What’s happening in the world this week?’ led by Mrs Griffin and focusing on key events that are taking place in the world currently;
- Thursday Worship Focus: Singing led by Mrs Walker;
- Friday Worship Focus: Celebration led by Mrs Gnanasri to celebrate the team points winners for the week and achievements from both inside and outside school with the pupils.
Monday's Worship
In worship on Monday, we reflected on the message in 1 Peter 2:9: But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. We considered the question: 'Is it important to feel proud of where you come from?' To help us to consider this further we thought about the following questions:
- What does it mean to feel proud of something?
- Why might some people feel proud of where they come from, while others may not?
- How can showing compassion help others feel included?
- How can we celebrate the differences and similarities in our communities?
We then went back to focusing on the opening passage and discussed the message shared by Jesus that everyone is important and has a special place in the world. The Gospel reminds us that we belong and are loved. When we remember this, we can shine our light on other people and places around us, helping to build a fair and caring community, where everyone feels welcome, respected and valued.
Tuesday's Worship
In Tuesday's worship we learnt about Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday. We talked about why we celebrate with pancake day . We reflected on the things that we might want to give up or take up for Lent. We asked ourselves what things get in the way and distract us from what we should be doing or how we should be behaving. We enjoyed watching a pancake flipping competition and we finished by thanking God for all the things that he gives us and asking him to help us be less distracted and more intentional in how we behave.
Wednesday's Worship
On Wednesday Insight led our worship. We reflected on how the story of Beauty and the Beast has so many messages for us and how there are similarities with the story of creation. We looked at how we can be tempted to do the wrong things. We also thought about how Beauty loved the Beast, she loved him for who he was and not what he looked like. We also reflected on what real beauty looks like and how it can be felt.
Thursday's Worship
Singing Worship:
This week, we had a special singing worship to celebrate World Book Day through music. Our Recorder Club performed Shotgun by George Ezra, before we taught the song to the whole school with special World Book Day lyrics about the importance of reading. Our school choir have been working hard to learn the verses, and performed these beautifully.
We then sang some worship songs from our Easter repertoire: Easter Jubilation, Sing Out an Easter Song and Hosanna.
Friday's Worship
During Friday's worship, we shared the team points winners for the week - Year 2 for the class winners and Sapphires for the team points - awarded the 'hot chocolate awards' given for demonstrating love in our actions and celebrated some of our pupils' achievements from outside of school. We had some beautiful reflections around how to be a life long reader and we came up with some top tips on overcoming the most common barriers to reading. We came up with the following strategies: choosing what to read , choosing when to read, choosing where to read and forming book clubs with friends/families. The most popular was listening to audio books as well as reading comic books/graphic novel too.
We also shared our SPARK poem achievement and we had over 45 different and creative entries. All children who entered will be given a SPARK certificate over the course of the half term. What a wonderful World Book Day and week!
