Worship Round Up

Friday 6th June 2025

Our weekly round-up aims to support our parents in the conversations that they are having at home with their children. Each week, we will share the themes of each of our worships and any resources that we have been using, such as: videos, books and music, to allow our parents to access these if they wish to. Our weekly worship is structured in the following way:

  • Monday Worship Focus: Values Focus led by Mrs Evans who revisits one of our core values — Commitment, Courage and Love.
  • Tuesday Worship Focus: Themed worships led by class teachers. For this term, staff will be revisiting ‘positive learning behaviours’ that help us to demonstrate our values in action;
  • Wednesday Worship Focus: ‘What’s happening in the world this week?’ led by Mrs Griffin and focusing on key events that are taking place in the world currently;
  • Thursday Worship Focus: Singing led by Mrs Walker;
  • Friday Worship Focus: Celebration led by Mrs Gnanasri to celebrate the team points winners for the week and achievements from both inside and outside school with the pupils.

Tuesday's  Worship

In Tuesday's worship, we reflected on the message in Joshua 1:9: "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” and this Amelia Earhart quote:

The most difficult thing is the decision to act; the rest is merely tenacity.

We then spoke about Dr Rosemary Coogan who is a new British astronaut who may take part in a space mission within the next 5 years and could become the first British astronaut to walk on the moon. We considered the mix of feelings that could come from being 'the first' to do something: excitement, nervousness, curiosity, and thought about the courage that can be needed to do this. We reflected on the strength that can be drawn from the knowledge that God is with us at times when we face something uncertain and how being 'the first' to do something can inspire others.

Wednesday's Worship

In worship on Wednesday we considered the expression, 'patience is a virtue' and what this means. We considered the world we live in and the messages that we often here around if you want it you can have it and how in this digital age we don't have to wait long for things. We shared reasons for why we need to practice patience. We then considered which of the four things we need to do better to be more patient..

1) We need to understand that the world doesn't revolve around us

2) We need to make good choices

3) we need to appreciate things that are worth doing can take time

4) we need to demonstrate a commitment to being patient

We finished by sharing the recount in Luke 2 about Simeon waiting patiently for Jesus' coming. We heard how with action, Simeon waited patiently for the coming of the messiah. We finished in prayer asking God to help us with our own patience.

Thursday's Worship

This week, we heard the school band play The Wellerman. The band is growing from strength to strength and now involves many musicians playing recorders, trumpet, violin, drum, glockenspiel and piano. They look forward to performing again to the school community at the summer fair on Saturday.

We also sang songs about caring for our environment and prayed to thank God for our voices and our friends.

Friday's Worship

During Friday's worship, we shared the team points winners for the week - Year 6 for the class winners and Sapphires for the team points - awarded the 'hot chocolate awards' given for demonstrating love in our actions and celebrated some of our pupils' achievements outside of school including swimming achievements. We considered what it means to be a community in our school and how we have the opportunity to show commitment. We shared when we had last shown commitment and what helps us to keep going. We explored the importance of settings goals that mean something to us and to choose people who will remind us to be the best version of ourselves. We watched the following video with Katie Marrow to see how commitment takes time and effort (it does not always show the pay off immediately) : https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/articles/z7thkhv#zngjvj6 We finished in prayer and reflection to remind us of the importance of commitment in our day to day life.
