Worship Round Up

Friday 4th October 2024

Our weekly round-up aims to support our parents in the conversations that they are having at home with their children. Each week, we will share the themes of each of our worships and any resources that we have been using, such as: videos, books and music, to allow our parents to access these if they wish to. Our weekly worship is structured in the following way:

Monday Worship Focus: Values Focus led by Mrs Evans who revisits one of our core values — Commitment, Courage and Love.
Tuesday Worship Focus: ‘Earth Heroes’ led by class teachers;
Wednesday Worship Focus: ‘What’s happening in the world this week?’ led by Mrs Griffin and focusing on key events that are taking place in the world currently;
Thursday Worship Focus: Singing led by Mrs Walker;
Friday Worship Focus: Celebration led by a member of the senior leadership team to celebrate the team points winners for the week and achievements from both inside and outside school with the pupils.

Monday's Worship

This week we focused on 'Mutual Respect and Tolerance'. We looked at what this means and talked about: celebrating similarities and differences, treating others as we would like to be treated and ensuring that we can all feel proud of who we are. I introduced the children to the book: "The Colour of Us" and we talked about the fact that the colour everyone's skin is unique - no two exactly the same. We then reflected on the message of Psalm 139: "You are a child of God. You are wonderfully made, dearly loved, and precious in His sight." and considered the question: "Why did God create us all to be different from one another?" We closed our worship with prayers led by some of the children.

Wednesday's Worship

INSIGHT Worship

On Wednesday, Insight led worship based on the parable of the lost son. The story of the prodigal son is a picture of God's love for us as his children. God's love for us does not depend on our faithfulness; it is unconditional. He loved us while we were still sinners and even when do not make the right choices. We had volunteers from the audience to help us to act out the story and to show us how each person in the story responded. Susie helped us to reflect on the fact that by showing unconditional love- there was always a chance to make a change for the positive and that it is never too late to try and ask for help or to do the right thing. We closed in prayer reflecting on how we could show such forgiveness and ask for help whilst accepting that we are all flawed but have the potential to be better every day.

Thursday's Worship

Harvest Festival Service

The Faith reps led our Harvest Festival service on Thursday. In preparing for this service they wanted us to consider the theme of a thankful harvest. We read from 2 Corinthians 9v 10 :“For God is the One who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, He will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you. . . ” We considered the foods we like and those we don't like and organised these in to two groups. We reflected on whether we are thankful for both groups of food. We listened to the story of Jesus healing the 10 leppers with only 1 returning to say thank you for the healing miracle. We considered how God calls on us to be thankful for one another and for the harvest and to give him thanks. We give God thanks this harvest for all that he has given us and thank him that we are able to share this with others.

Friday's Worship

During Friday's worship, we shared the team points winners for the week -Reception for the class winners and Rubies for the team points - awarded the 'hot chocolate awards' given for demonstrating love in our actions and celebrated some of our pupils' achievements from outside of school. We looked at the the key question: why do people need people? As part of Black History Month - we also looked at the work of Benjamin Zephaniah. We discovered that there is power in poetry based on collaboration. We thought about why we need people who are different to each other. We explored that by building relationships and asking respectful questions, we could understand one another better. We looked at the bible quote: “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” – John 15:12
