Worship Round Up

Friday 3rd July 2026

Our weekly round-up aims to support our parents in the conversations that they are having at home with their children. Each week, we will share the themes of each of our worships and any resources that we have been using, such as: videos, books and music, to allow our parents to access these if they wish to. Our weekly worship is structured in the following way:

Mondays: Values worship led by Mrs Evans where each week we focus on a different school value (Commitment; Courage; Love) as a theme linking these to bible stories, quotes and our positive learning behaviours.
Tuesdays: These worships are led by Reverend Jen Houghton and will focus on the theme of ‘What God is like and what God’s kingdom is like’.
Wednesdays: These worships are led by Mrs Griffin and respond to world events and days of significance in order that we are recognising God’s presence and power in our world today.
Thursdays: Singing Assembly led by Mrs Walker.
Fridays: Celebration Worship led by class teachers. Children are rewarded for upholding our school values during the week, class and team winners are announced and a thought or reflection for the week is shared.

Monday's Worship

In Monday's worship, we began with 1 Corinthians 14:33: "For God is not a God of chaos but of peace." We held this in mind as we explored the rest of our worship. We talked about British Values and considered what each of these means within our community. Individual Liberty - we talked about our right to have our own individual thoughts and opinions and linked this to the pupil survey which each child completed to give their views about the school. Rule of Law - we talked about the rule of law being like a shield that protects everyone within our communtiy - that if we follow the rules of our community this helps to keep all of us safe and protects everyone's right to an uninterrupted education. Democracy - we talked about democracy being the chance for us all to have a vote, a choice, a voice. We talked about the power of us all making the same choices.

Finally we looked at Mutual Repsect and Tolerance. We linked this back to our worship last week where we focused on the fact that 'everyone matters'. We looked at a 'Jenga' tower and talked about mutual respect and tolerance being like the different blocks in the tower. when we treat every block with care the tower stays 'up', 'strong' and 'stable' (children's reflections). Then we looked at what happens if not all blocks are treated with care (as though they don't matter or aren't needed) - it didn't take long for the tower to fall! We considered the actions that we can focus on in our classrooms this week to ensure that we are showing this mutual respect and tolerance for one another. Finally we revisited the Bible verse and considered how does this link to British Values? We thought about the message that God's aim is peace and that if we follow God, and demonstrate British values, we can create peace within our communities.

Tuesday's Worship

This week in worship, we celebrated the results of the Spark! Book Awards and reflected on the power of reading. Our Reading Champions helped us remember that books can bring joy, imagination, connection and curiosity. We explored the winning books from each category: Once I Was a Tree for Picture Fiction, Wild Magic for 7+, Shrapnel Boys for 9+, and Choose Your Own Evolution for Non-fiction. We also thought carefully about why non-fiction books matter, as they help us discover real people, real places, facts, inventions and the amazing world around us. The children were reminded that reading is not just schoolwork — it is a way to learn, imagine, question and create.

Wednesday's Worship

During worship on Wednesday, we focused on what it truly means to show respect. We talked about how everyone deserves love and appreciation, and that we cannot pick and choose who we will show respect too. We though especially about the staff members who work tirelessly behind the scenes such as our cooks, cleaners, and site manager. Without them, our school couldn't function. We were challenged to go out of our way to show extra gratitude and say thank you to these vital members of our community this week.

Thursday's Worship

This week, classes sang from our bank of traditional and contemporary songs. Year 6 have been practising for their Leavers' Service at Southwark Cathedral:

Friday's Worship

In Friday's worship, we celebrated the team points winners for the week: Diamonds and Year 1. We then looked back to Monday’s worship to deepen our reflection. We revisited Monday’s worship about British values and how they help us feel happy and ready to learn. After reflecting on how these values boosted our learning all week, we ended with a prayer of gratitude—thanking God for our safe school community and remembering to thank the unsung people who support us every day.
