Worship Round Up
Friday 2nd May 2025
Our weekly round-up aims to support our parents in the conversations that they are having at home with their children. Each week, we will share the themes of each of our worships and any resources that we have been using, such as: videos, books and music, to allow our parents to access these if they wish to. Our weekly worship is structured in the following way:
- Monday Worship Focus: Values Focus led by Mrs Evans who revisits one of our core values — Commitment, Courage and Love.
- Tuesday Worship Focus: 'Women in STEM’ led by class teachers using 'Great Women who Worked Wonders' by Kate Pankhurst;
- Wednesday Worship Focus: ‘What’s happening in the world this week?’ led by Mrs Griffin and focusing on key events that are taking place in the world currently;
- Thursday Worship Focus: Singing led by Mrs Walker;
- Friday Worship Focus: Celebration led by Mrs Gnanasri to celebrate the team points winners for the week and achievements from both inside and outside school with the pupils.
Monday's Worship
In Monday's worship, we talked about the current sitaution in Birmingham which has led to all refuse collectors being on strike. It has led local people to cosider who should be tidying up in local areas and in some areas has led to lots of rubbish being left out in public spaces. We considered how it feels when we are in spaces that are untidy or cluttered, what the consequences can be to not keeping spaces tidy or clean and whether we should be expected to tidy up for others. We listened to the song 'One World' (which you can listen to here) and considered the messages in this about us all playing our part in looking after our world.
Tuesday's Worship
This week in worship we looked at what the word 'happy' means, we discussed with our talk partners what it looks like to be happy and what makes you happy. We then went on to discuss different words that also mean happy, also looking at how being happy can have a positive impact on your learning at school.
Wednesday's Worship
On Wednesday we reflected on Earth Day. Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22nd to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote actions to protect the planet. First observed in 1970, Earth Day has grown into a global movement involving over a billion people in more than 190 countries. It encourages activities like tree planting, clean-up drives, educational programs, and policy advocacy focused on climate change, pollution, and sustainability. We considered what out part is in looking after God's creation.
Genesis 2:15 (NIV): "The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it."
Thursday's Worship
This week, we continued to sing songs about looking after our world. 'Friendship Makes a Beautiful World' was written for this year's Kingston Singing Festival by composer, Cheynne Gibb-Singh, in collaboration with local primary school children. We prayed to thank God for our world and to ask Him to help us care for it.
Friday's Worship
During Friday's worship , we shared the team points winners for the week - Year 2 for the class winners and Diamonds for the team points - awarded the 'hot chocolate awards' given for demonstrating love in our actions and celebrated some of our pupils' achievements. We considered what fairness actually meant : is it when everything is divided equally, or when people have what they need? We also then considered how we needed to acknowledge that different people need different support. We looked at how some may need more support to access something than others but also that this could vary at different stages of their learning. We then finished by reflecting on how we can be fair and show equality in our every day choices.
