Worship Round Up
Friday 29th November 2024
Our weekly round-up aims to support our parents in the conversations that they are having at home with their children. Each week, we will share the themes of each of our worships and any resources that we have been using, such as: videos, books and music, to allow our parents to access these if they wish to. Our weekly worship is structured in the following way:
- Monday Worship Focus: Values Focus led by Mrs Evans who revisits one of our core values — Commitment, Courage and Love.
- Tuesday Worship Focus: ‘Earth Heroes’ led by class teachers;
- Wednesday Worship Focus: ‘What’s happening in the world this week?’ led by Mrs Griffin and focusing on key events that are taking place in the world currently;
- Thursday Worship Focus: Singing led by Mrs Walker;
- Friday Worship Focus: Celebration led by a member of the senior leadership team to celebrate the team points winners for the week and achievements from both inside and outside school with the pupils.
Monday's Worship
On Monday, I spoke to the children about the 'Earthshot Prize'. This is a prize that was launched a few years ago to challenge people to find ways to repair our world. We watched a video about the prize and heard about the fact that it was inspired by what is known as the 'Moonshot' when President Kennedy challenged scientists to land a rocket on the moon within 10 years - guess what...they did!! We thought about the Earth Heroes that we have been learning about this year and considered ways that we can have a positive impact on our local community. We closed worship by reflecting on the fact that we all have a part to play in taking care of our world for future generations and by watching a lovely illustrated version of Louis Armstrong's 'What a Wonderful World'.
Tuesday's Worship
On Tuesday, we continued our series of worship on our earth Heroes. Our earth hero this week was Renee King-Sonnen a vegan activist who has campaigned for animal rights in cattle ranches across Texas. Being from the city , Renee had never stepped foot onto a ranch until she met her husband who was a fourth generation cattle rancher. After she married Tommy, Renee found herself living on a 96 acre ranch with over 30 cows. As a way to get used to farm life , he convinced Renee she needed her own cow in order to be a rancher. So she purchased an orphaned calf to raise. The first time Renee saw the young , scrawny black calf she immediately named her Rowdy Girl. Renee bottle fed Rowdy Girl twice a day for months and they bonded immediately. Neither of their lives would ever be the same. When Renee bonded with the animals of the farm, she decided that she wanted the animals to be treated better. We watched a video to understand how amazing cows are and how intelligent they are. We also spoke about what it meant to be a vegan and how it was different to being a vegetarian. We then discussed that we can all make choices to treat animals around us with respect and dignity. As a school, we shared our thoughts on why animals play such an important part of the world and how we could all play a positive role by recognising this too.
Wednesday's Worship
In singing worship, KS2 and KS1 & Reception divided in order to practise the songs for our Christmas concert and production.
KS2 are singing:

- O Little Town of Bethlehem
- O Come All Ye Faithful
- Go Tell it on the Mountain
- Hallelujah
Reception and KS1 are performing a nativity based around the songs from Miracle in Town and Little Donkey.
Thursday's Worship
On Thursday we revisited our Positive Relationship Policy. We reflected on how this policy has been created by and for us as a school community. We considered how we are made in God's image and what that should look like in our behaviours . Mrs Griffin asked the children to think about how as a school we work with an agreed set of values to show; love, courage and commitment. We looked at the consequence of our actions on both ourselves and others. We reflected on the fact that we often know the right thing to do but we find it hard to act on that. We finished by Asking God to help us do the right thing and not just know it. We thanked god for the plan that he has for each one of us.
Jeremiah 29v11
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Friday's Worship
During Friday's worship, we shared the team points winners for the week - Year 3 for the class winners and Rubies for the team points - awarded the 'hot chocolate awards' given for demonstrating love in our actions and celebrated some of our pupils' achievements from outside of school including a number of Blue Peter badges, Brownies badges and some musical achievements too. We continued to work on the idea of a growth mindset by looking at how we face failures and we looked at famous failures. We looked at how Michael Jordan had missed 9000 shots, missed 26 winning shots and lost 300 games however he used it to become better. We had an honest discussion around how we face failure in the classroom and how we use it to inform us of a better attempt the next time. We looked at the power of yet. So instead of saying I can't do it - we looked at reframing it to I can't do it yet and we are working on it. We looked at the following bible quote to help us to reflect :
