Worship Round Up

Friday 27th September 2024

Our weekly round-up aims to support our parents in the conversations that they are having at home with their children. Each week, we will share the themes of each of our worships and any resources that we have been using, such as: videos, books and music, to allow our parents to access these if they wish to. Our weekly worship is structured in the following way: 

• Monday Worship Focus: Values Focus led by Mrs Evans who revisits one of our core values — Commitment, Courage and Love. 
• Tuesday Worship Focus: ‘Earth Heroes’ led by class teachers;
• Wednesday Worship Focus: ‘What’s happening in the world this week?’ led by Mrs Griffin and focusing on key events that are taking place in the world currently;
• Thursday Worship Focus: Singing led by Mrs Walker;
• Friday Worship Focus: Celebration led by a member of the senior leadership team to celebrate the team points winners for the week and achievements from both inside and outside school with the pupils.

Monday's Worship

This week we focused on 'The Rule of Law'. We considered why rules are important and agreed that these help us to feel and stay safe and to ensure that things are fair. We thought about some of the rules that we have here at school and what would happen if we did not have any rules at all. We considered the question: "Does it matter if you break the rules if no-one is watching?" and then reflected on the message in 1 John 3:18 "My children, our love should not be just words and talk; it must be true love, which shows itself in action." We agreed that we should do the right thing even when no-one is watching and challenged the children to do this at all times this week. I closed worship by asking the children to honestly reflect on whether there are rules that they find hard to follow and what they can do to make this easier for them individually or as a group. We closed our worship with prayers led by David and Freddie. 

Tuesday's Worship

On Tuesday, we focussed on our second earth hero Yvon Chouinard. He is an American rock climber, environmentalist and outdoor industry businessman. He loved the outdoors! We found it very interesting that at school, instead of playing football or baseball, he would play on his own and ride bicycles to the park or play in ponds where he could fish or hunt. This sparked his passion for nature. He started up a clothing company called Patagonia that is known for its commitment to protecting the environment. We found out that the puffer coats that are manufactured by him are not only environmentally friendly but also made from recycled materials like plastic bottles and fishing nets! We reflected on how how we could protect our environment everyday.

Wednesday's Worship

This week the Faith Reps led a worship welcoming our new Reception as part of our collective worships. We talked about being all part of a big school family and reflected on what we know about the school. We had a 'working together' challenge and we read from Matthew 19 v 17-19 Jesus said: “If you want to enter life, keep the commandments… Honour your father and mother and love your neighbour as yourself”. We asked God in prayer to help us love one another and show kindness in what we do as well as reflect on how we welcome new people.

Thursday's Worship

Singing

This week in singing worship, we sang:
City on a Hill; Harvest Song; Harvest Samba; Praise to the One.
Children prayed to thank God for all our blessings, including the people in our lives.

Friday's Worship

During Friday's worship, we shared the team points winners for the week -Year 4 for the class winners and Diamonds for the team points - awarded the 'hot chocolate awards' given for demonstrating love in our actions and celebrated some of our pupils' achievements from outside of school. We looked at the idea of teamwork in the animal kingdom and what makes an effective team player or partner. We discussed the importance of building one another up and encouraging each other to step out of our comfort zone. We discussed that by shifting the focus from just one person to the team , we can often find different perspectives and more solutions.  We spoke about being able to draw our strength from God by looking at the following quote: “So comfort each other and give each other strength, just as you are doing now. So then, encourage one another and build each other up, as you are doing." 1 Thessalonians 5:11.
