Worship Round Up

Friday 27th February 2026

Our weekly round-up aims to support our parents in the conversations that they are having at home with their children. Each week, we will share the themes of each of our worships and any resources that we have been using, such as: videos, books and music, to allow our parents to access these if they wish to. Our weekly worship is structured in the following way: 

• Mondays: Values worship led by Mrs Evans where each week we focus on a different school value (Commitment; Courage; Love) as a theme linking these to bible stories, quotes and our positive learning behaviours.

• Tuesdays: These worships are led by Reverend Jen Houghton and will focus on the theme of men and women of Faith along with worships relating to the Church calendar.

• Wednesdays: These worships are led by Mrs Griffin and respond to world events and days of significance in order that we are recognising God’s presence and power in our world today.

• Thursdays: Singing Assembly led by Mrs Walker.

• Fridays: Celebration Worship led by class teachers. Children are rewarded for upholding our school values during the week, class and team winners are announced and a thought or reflection for the week is shared.

Monday's Worship

On Monday, we talked about Courage and reflected on the message of Joshua 1:9: "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” First considered some things in our community that we thought could be improved - less littering, looking after equipment, making everyone feel included all the time. We then showed the children a 'courage bag' and asked them to consider if there is a tool inside that could be used to demonstrate courage, what might it be? When we looked inside the bag it was revealed to be a pencil. We thought about how a pencil could be used to demonstrate courage and heard a little bit about Malala Yousafzai who used her pencil to write about things that she felt were unfair. You can read more about this in the book 'Malala's magic Pencil'. We then thought about how we could use our pencils to tackle some of the situations tht we looked at earlier adn we considerd making posters or write to the council. We relfected on the fact that even we can make a big difference and the improtnace of sharing our views to make changes in our community.  

Tuesday's Worship

For Tuesday's worship with Jen we focused on Lent. Jen played a game of head and tails with chidlren to see what they knew already and then told them the story from the Bible of Jesus spending 40 days and 40 nights in the desert. During this time, Jesus faced tests which it took him courage resist. Jen then shared with the children that Lent is a time for: Prayer; Helping others and Growing closer to God and encouraged the children to consider which of these they might focus on in the lead up to Easter. 

Wednesday's Worship

On Wednesday, we continued to focus on the Hidden Chimp book with the Peer Mentors leading a wonderful worship for the rest of the school. The Peer Mentors are helping us to explore things that will help us to manage our hidden chimp, enabling us to reflect before reacting, such as smiling and saying sorry. They helped us to reflect on the power of smiling and the positive feeling that you pass on and feel in return when smiling at others. They got us to reflect on how we can draw on positive thoughts when we are feeling sad or overwhelmed. 

They also helped us to reflect on the importance of saying sorry - that this can make us feel a sense of relief whereas not saying sorry can lead to us carrying a heavy feeling if we know that we have not told the truth or have not done something well. 

It is lovely to see our Peer Mentors taking the lead in this way and supporting the younger pupils with this as part of their role in our playgrounds. 

Thursday's Worship

This week, in singing worship, we enjoyed learning a new, bluesy song about Jesus's resurrection, 'Have You Heard?'.

We also sang some familiar contemporary worship songs:

Friday's Worship

In Friday's worship, we celebrated the team points winners for the week: Rubies and Reception. We also gave out our hot chocolate awards. We then reflected on our worship from Monday, which was all about showing courage. We listened to the story 'The Dot': Listen to 'The Dot and considered these 3 reflection questions:

1. How have you used your pencil this week to show courage?

2. How does Vashti use her pencil to show courage?

3. Name three positive things that happened as a result of Vashti’s first dot.
