Worship Round Up

Our weekly round-up aims to support our parents in the conversations that they are having at home with their children. Each week, we will share the themes of each of our worships and any resources that we have been using, such as: videos, books and music, to allow our parents to access these if they wish to. Our weekly worship is structured in the following way:

Mondays: Values worship led by Mrs Evans where each week we focus on a different school value (Commitment; Courage; Love) as a theme linking these to bible stories, quotes and our positive learning behaviours.
Tuesdays: Themed worships led by class teachers. The theme for this term is: ‘Ordinary Kids with Extraordinary Stories’ using the book ‘Rise Up’. Worship will focus on ‘Resilience and the message of Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ because he gives me strength.”
Wednesdays: These worships are led by Mrs Griffin and respond to world events and days of significance in order that we are recognising God’s presence and power in our world today.
Thursdays: Singing Assembly led by Mrs Walker.
Fridays: Celebration Worship led by Mrs Evans. Children are rewarded for upholding our school values during the week, class and team winners are announced and a thought or reflection for the week is shared.

Monday's Worship

In worship on Monday, the Reception class joined us for the first time! We began by revisiting our three school values - Commitment, Courage and Love - and read James 1:12: "Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him." We considered what the word 'perseverance' means and then listened to the story of Nehemiah rebuilding the wall: The Story of Nehemiah. We thought about how Nehemiah showed perseverance in his actions, what we can learn from Nehemiah and Mrs Evans set the children the challenge of noticing this week when they have to persevere. Finally, we reflected on the message of James 1:12 and the fact that we draw strength from God's love for each one of us when we are feeling challenged. We closed worship with prayers led by Ella and Saira and sang 'Our God is a Great Big God.'

Tuesday's Worship

On Tuesday, we learnt about Poorna Malavath, an Indian school girl from a poor farming family, was chosen to climb Everest. After eight gruelling months of training she climbed to the summit of Everest, some 8,849m above sea level. With this, she became the youngest girl to stand on the highest point on Earth. Some St Paul's children have climbed our UK mountains, Scafell Pike, Snowdonia and Ben Nevis. We compared these to Everest which is over 4.6 miles taller! The children reflected on what they would like to do that might exceed all expectations. Before prayers we shared our ideas on how Poorna upheld our school values of commitment, courage and love and reflected on the message of Philippians 13:4 "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me". The children recognised Poorna's bravery, her dedicated commitment to the taxing and terrifying climb and her love, which she showed in her respect for the adults who believed in her.

Wednesday's Worship

On Wednesday INSIGHT came to share with us the story of David and Goliath from the Old Testament. There was an opportunity for the children to be part of a dramatization of the story. The children considered how God supports us even when we face significant obstacles, that we can trust in him and he can help us do unimaginable things. 1 Samuel 17.

Thursday's Worship

This week in singing worship, we set the mood for our day with The Blessing. We practised three harvest songs:
Let's Give Thanks for the Harvest
Everybody Praise Him
Praise to the One
We finished by singing Praise, which includes the words of Psalm 150:6 'Let everything that has breath praise the Lord'.

Friday's Worship

During Friday's worship, we celebrated the team points winners for the week: Rubies and Year 1. We also gave out our hot chocolate awards. We then revisited James 1:12: "Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him." We thought about the story of Nehemiah that we heard on Monday and watched a video all about perseverance: Perseverance Video and then reflected with our talk partners on whether we have faced any situations where we have had to persevere this week. We closed worhsip with prayers led by Karina and Ariyan and by singing 'City on a Hill'.
