Worship Round Up

Friday 26th January 2024

Our weekly round-up aims to support our parents in the conversations that they are having at home with their children. Each week, we will share the themes of each of our worships and any resources that we have been using, such as: videos, books and music, to allow our parents to access these if they wish to. Our weekly worship is structured in the following way:

  • Monday Worship Focus: ‘The world Needs More Purple People’ led by class teachers or the senior leadership team who explore the theme of 'All Made in God's Image';
  • Tuesday Worship Focus: ‘What’s happening in the world this week?’ led by Mrs Griffin and focusing on key events that are taking place in the world currently;
  • Wednesday Worship Focus: ‘Bible Stories’ led by Luke Wickings (the vicar from St Paul’s) who is working through the stories of the Bible and exploring the lessons that can be learnt from these;
  • Thursday Worship Focus: Singing led by Mrs Griffin and Mrs Walker;
  • Friday Worship Focus: Values and Celebration led by Mrs Evans who revisits one of our core values — Commitment, Courage and Love, along with celebrating the team points winners for the week and achievements from outside school with the pupils.

Monday's Worship

Using Your Voice

On Monday, we continued to explore our new book 'The World Needs More Purple People'. We recapped the four main focuses for the term that are going to help us with building better relationships and to be more inclusive: asking good questions, using our voices, working hard and being ourselves. This week, we focused on using our voice. We explored different ways that we can use our voices: to share ideas, help others and to share opinions. We considered the importance of using our voice carefully though to make sure that we do not hurt others in the way that we share our thoughts and opinions. Mr Davies gave us an example to look at and we considered how the opinion could have been shared moer carefully. We reflected again on 1 Samuel 16:7 and considered how the way that we say things can give an insight into how much we understand, think about and consider those around us.

 Tuesday's Worship

Time to Reflect

On Tuesday, every class had some time for reflection in their classrooms led by their class teachers.

Wednesday's Worship

Jesus's Miracles

On Wednesday it was Luke's final worship at St Paul's. He started by asking us to reflect on Jesus's greatest miracle. We talked about the many miracles that we know about including the following: Jesus walking on water, Jesus giving sight to the blind, Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead and even Jesus calming the storm. He then told us the story of Matthew the Tax Collector. He explained that in ancient times people may have disliked Matthew as they assumed Tax Collectors were cheaters or traitors who stole their money for the Romans. Jesus however, much to the dislike of the religious leaders, showed Matthew total acceptance. Jesus explained that he loved equally and that he was there for anyone who needed him. Luke explained that whilst none of us are perfect - it is our focus on trying to be the best version of ourselves that is most important. He closed in prayer and reminded us that God loves everyone despite our imperfections.

Thursday's Worship

Singing

In Singing Worship this week, we sang 'The Blessing' by Elevation Worship. We discussed what a blessing is, and how the song explains that God is always with us. We also heard the choir perform a new song that they have been learning.

Friday's Worship

What is Spirituality?

Today in worship we began a series of worships focusing on developing our 'Spirituality'. Today we focused on what the term 'spirituality' means and we began by watching the video below...

We then focused on some of the words that were mentioned: discovery, journey, reflection, prayer, growth, confidence, flourishing, meaning, purpose. We focused in more closely on 'Meaning - an understanding about why we are doing what we are doing' and 'Purpose - an understanding of what you intend to do: a plan or aim '. We then considered why a sense of 'meaning' and 'purpose' is so important in our lives and what it can help us to do. We sang 'My Lighthouse' together and closed worship in prayer led by Ivy in Year 2 and Lily in Year 3.
