Worship Round Up

Friday 24th January 2025

Our weekly round-up aims to support our parents in the conversations that they are having at home with their children. Each week, we will share the themes of each of our worships and any resources that we have been using, such as: videos, books and music, to allow our parents to access these if they wish to. Our weekly worship is structured in the following way: 

• Monday Worship Focus: Values Focus led by Mrs Evans who revisits one of our core values — Commitment, Courage and Love. 
• Tuesday Worship Focus: 'Women in STEM’ led by class teachers;
• Wednesday Worship Focus: ‘What’s happening in the world this week?’ led by Mrs Griffin and focusing on key events that are taking place in the world currently;
• Thursday Worship Focus: Singing led by Mrs Walker;
• Friday Worship Focus: Celebration led by Mrs Gnanasri to celebrate the team points winners for the week and achievements from both inside and outside school with the pupils.

Monday's Worship

Positive Thoughts

In worship on Monday, we began with Philippians 4:8: "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things."  and talked about the message that Paul was giving about the types of thoughts that people should fill their minds with. We then talked about the fact that the culture secretary is calling on 'You Tube' and other online platforms to do more with regards to the content that children can easily see online to ensure that it is appropriate and has a positive impact on them. We considered the things that we like to watch or listen to on the TV and online, how this makes us feel and whether we have ever seen or heard things that have made us feel sad or angry. We talked about the impact that this can have on how we behave towards others and the fact that the same is true for positive content and how this can then make us feel and in turn pass on to others. We then reflected further on the bible verse and picked out the key words: noble, right, true, pure, lovely, admirable and considered the fact that this message about the importance of positive thinking was one shared so many years ago by Jesus and his followers and yet is still so relevant today. We finished by reflecting on this quote by Zig Ziglar: "If you are selective about the things you choose to read, look at or listen to, then you are taking effective action against negative thinking." We closed worship with prayers led by some of the children and by singing one of our new songs about St Paul: 'Paul Kept the Faith'. 

Tuesday's  Worship

In worship we have been looking at women in STEM, this week it was all about 'Rosalind Franklin'. Rosalind grew up wanting to be a scientist, however knowing that at the time it was a uncommon job pathway for a women. Regardless, Rosalind still became a scientist and discovered the structure of DNA. Rosalind's discovery of the structure of DNA led to the famous photograph called 'Photograph 51', this photograph showed us how life is passed down from generation to generation.  

Wednesday's Worship

During Wednesday's worship, we celebrated World religion day. We reflected on different religions and beliefs. We explored their differences but also looked at messages that are similar too. We found that all religions agree that you should treat others as you would like to be treated. Luke 6v32 31 'Treat others the same way you want them to treat you.'  We discussed how we can come together and understand each other if we really listen to one another and be curious about each other in a respectful manner. In prayer we asked God to help us treat others well and think about how we also look after ourselves too. 

Thursday's Worship

This week in singing worship, we continued to practise songs about St Paul:
Paul Kept the Faith
Go Let's Go

We also sang 'That's Who I Praise'. There is a line in the song: 'I want a faith like Paul'. We discussed what these lyrics might mean, and plan to revisit this when the children have reflected on Paul's life in special worships next week.

Friday's Worship

During Friday's worship, we shared the team points winners for the week - Year 4  for the class winners and Diamonds for the team points - awarded the 'hot chocolate awards' given for demonstrating love in our actions and celebrated some of our pupils' achievements from outside of school. We started discussing how we can also earn our bronze SPARK book award soon! This term, we are launching our SPARK book awards with our nominated short lists for each age group category from early years right up to Year 6. Our reading champions introduced themselves and launched the first competition to help us achieve our Bronze school status! We discussed how we are going to use a voting system in each library too! We loved sharing some of our favourite books as a school community and cannot wait to show off our reading skills as well as our love for reading!
