Worship Round Up

Our weekly round-up aims to support our parents in the conversations that they are having at home with their children. Each week, we will share the themes of each of our worships and any resources that we have been using, such as: videos, books and music, to allow our parents to access these if they wish to. Our weekly worship is structured in the following way: 

• Mondays: Values worship led by Mrs Evans where each week we focus on a different school value (Commitment; Courage; Love) as a theme linking these to bible stories, quotes and our positive learning behaviours.

• Tuesdays: These worships are led by Reverend Jen Houghton and will focus on the theme of men and women of Faith along with worships relating to the Church calendar.

• Wednesdays: These worships are led by Mrs Griffin and respond to world events and days of significance in order that we are recognising God’s presence and power in our world today.

• Thursdays: Singing Assembly led by Mrs Walker.

• Fridays: Celebration Worship led by class teachers. Children are rewarded for upholding our school values during the week, class and team winners are announced and a thought or reflection for the week is shared.

Monday's Worship

On Monday, we focused on our value of Commitment. We heard about the Jane Goodall Earth medal which Ash Bee created to celebrate people who work hard to help others and care for the world. The award recognises kind and caring actions even when people are not looking for praise. We thought about awards that we have in school for demonstrating commitment to our values - Good News Book, Hot Chocolate, Dojos and Stickers - and considered whether having awards to recognise kind and positive actions is important.

We considered the fact that these awards can inspire others and can make them consider what they could do to work towards achieving something similar. 

We then reflected on the message of Luke 3:10-11: “What should we do then?” the crowd asked. John answered, “Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.”  which teaches us that real change is made through small daily actions to live fairly, make good choices and to share with others.

Finally we considered how we can make a commitment to this in our daily actions at school. 

Tuesday's Worship

On Tuesday, our Vicar, Jen, began worship with a lucky, or unlucky, dip. She then introduced us to the Bible character Job, who lost everything he had but he still trusted God. Through his story, we learned that even when things go badly, God is still with us and still loves us. 

Wednesday's Worship

In worship on Wednesday we reflected on the word voted most popular by children nationally this year, which is PEACE. We asked ourselves why this would be such an important word for children this year. We considered where we find peace and how we create peace in our choices. We talked about the knock on effect like a domino effect we can have when we are not feeling a sense of peace. We asked God to help us feel peace, know that he is with us and share peace with others. John 14:27: "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." 

Thursday's Worship

This week, we learned a lovely worship song that was new to many of the children: The Lord's my Shepherd (I will Trust in You Alone).
We discussed the meaning of these words from Psalm 23 and how God is like a shepherd, and us, his sheep.

We also sang:
Lord of the Dance
Everywhere Around Me
This Little Light of Mine

As the children led out of worship, we sang quietly, 'Be Still for the Presence of the Lord'.

Friday's Worship

In Friday's worship, we celebrated the team points winners for the week: Diamonds and Year 3. We gave out our hot chocolate awards, celebrated achievements from outside school and looked at the latest entries to the Good News book! We then thought about the rewards we had received this week in school and what we had done to earn them. We also thought carefully about how we showed commitment to our actions this week - what we had said we'd do and what we did to show it.
