Worship Round Up

Friday 22nd November 2024

Our weekly round-up aims to support our parents in the conversations that they are having at home with their children. Each week, we will share the themes of each of our worships and any resources that we have been using, such as: videos, books and music, to allow our parents to access these if they wish to. Our weekly worship is structured in the following way:

  • Monday Worship Focus: Values Focus led by Mrs Evans who revisits one of our core values — Commitment, Courage and Love.
  • Tuesday Worship Focus: ‘Earth Heroes’ led by class teachers;
  • Wednesday Worship Focus: ‘What’s happening in the world this week?’ led by Mrs Griffin and focusing on key events that are taking place in the world currently;
  • Thursday Worship Focus: Singing led by Mrs Walker;
  • Friday Worship Focus: Celebration led by a member of the senior leadership team to celebrate the team points winners for the week and achievements from both inside and outside school with the pupils.

Tuesday's Worship

On Tuesday, we continued our worship sessions by looking at Earth Heroes. We began by recapping some of the heroes we remembered from past sessions before focusing on Yin Yuzhen. We learned how to pronounce her name and the word "desertification." Yin has done an incredible amount of work replanting and cultivating desert spaces in China. We learned that Yin has so far planted an area roughly equivalent to four times the size of Chessington. Finally, we reflected on how we can show the same values that Yin demonstrated.

Wednesday's Worship

On Wednesday, we focused on Road Safety Week. This year the focus is on 'Road Safety Heroes'. We talked about what it means to be a 'hero'. We reflected on the fact that heroes help others, look out for others who are in need and work on making things safer. We talked about the fact that whilst fictional superheroes are often seen to be physically incredibly strong, that in life heroes are not always people with the most physical strength. We talked about 'Road Saftey Heroes' being anyone who helps to make our roads afer or healthier and considered who these might be? We talked about teachers on trips, parents/carers, traffic crossing attendants, emergency services but also about town planners and those working on making transport more environmentally friendly. We ended worship by watching a video about top tips for being safe on our local roads and considered which top tips we could use each day.

Thursday's Worship

Singing

In singing worship, KS2 and KS1 & Reception divided in order to practise the songs for our Christmas concert and production. KS2 are singing:

- Unto Us a Son is Born

- Here Comes the Snow

- Entre le boeuf et l'ane gris

- O Little Town of Bethlehem

- O Come All Ye Faithful

- Go Tell it on the Mountain

- Hallelujah

KS1 are performing a nativity based around the songs from Miracle in Town and Little Donkey.

Friday's Worship

During Friday's worship, we shared the team points winners for the week - Year 4 for the class winners and Sapphires for the team points - awarded the 'hot chocolate awards' given for demonstrating love in our actions and celebrated some of our pupils' achievements from outside of school. We continued to reflect on growth mindset. We looked at neurons and how they build on each other when we struggle or keep trying with a new task. We looked at wonderful inventions invented through mistakes (such as the slinky, crips, silly putty and post it notes) and watched a video to help us understand the importance of learning from mistakes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rg_MeWhJW7I

We shared our own experiences with each other where we learnt from our mistakes and used them to be even better.
