Worship Round Up

Friday 20th September 2024

Our weekly round-up aims to support our parents in the conversations that they are having at home with their children. Each week, we will share the themes of each of our worships and any resources that we have been using, such as: videos, books and music, to allow our parents to access these if they wish to. Our weekly worship is structured in the following way: 

• Monday Worship Focus: Values Focus led by Mrs Evans who revisits one of our core values — Commitment, Courage and Love. 
• Tuesday Worship Focus: ‘Earth Heroes’ led by class teachers;
• Wednesday Worship Focus: ‘What’s happening in the world this week?’ led by Mrs Griffin and focusing on key events that are taking place in the world currently;
• Thursday Worship Focus: Singing led by Mrs Walker;
• Friday Worship Focus: Celebration led by a member of the senior leadership team to celebrate the team points winners for the week and achievements from both inside and outside school with the pupils.

Monday's Worship

This week we returned to 'Individual Liberty' and Galatians 5v13-14 "My brothers, God called you to be free. But do not use your freedom as an excuse to do the things that please your sinful self. Serve each other with love."  We reflected on what this looks like in action: considering how we share our views; taking time to listen even if we are unsure about what someone else is saying; taking turns with choices - playing your game one day and someone else's the next. Finally we considered why this is so important and the role that it plays in making us feel that we 'belong' within our communities. 

Tuesday's Worship

On Tuesday, we continued our series on 'Earth Heroes'. We began by recapping some of the Earth Heroes we had discussed last term before introducing this week's hero, Amelia Telford. Amelia is a climate activist who is currently campaigning to protect the Great Barrier Reef. With this in mind, three children were asked to pretend to be fish, and we reflected on what might happen if someone was working on their homes. Our favourite fun fact about Amelia was that, when she once met the Australian Prime Minister, she dressed up as Nemo and asked him not to destroy her home. It was inspiring to hear that Amelia Telford's journey began when she was in school, where she advocated for the installation of solar panels to provide cleaner energy.

Wednesday's Worship

On Wednesday, the Faith Reps led our worship on our Shoebox appeal. This year we have shared with the school community how we want to support others this Christmas by putting our 'love in a box'.  We enjoyed watching the build a box challenge. We prayed and thank God for the things we have asking him to help us with sharing these things. We asked God to help those in the world who are struggling. We reflected on John 15:12-13. “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends.” The Faith Reps are really keen to send as many boxes as we can. If you're not able to fill a box we are asking for small donations in to the class boxes that we are also making up. We encourage you to come and collect a box from the front office and hand this in by Tuesday the 22nd of October.

Thursday's Worship

Singing

In singing worship this week, we sang three songs about harvest time: 'Praise to the One', 'Harvest Song' and 'Big Red Combine Harvester'. We also sang 'Praise' by Elevation Worship. 

Friday's Worship

During Friday's worship, we shared the team points winners for the week - Year 5 for the class winners and Sapphires for the team points - awarded the 'hot chocolate awards' given for demonstrating love in our actions and celebrated some of our pupils' achievements from outside of school. We also considered how we could own our mistakes and how it could help us to develop. We reflected on the fact that when we make mistakes it doesn't always feel pleasant but when we acknowledge our part- we can often be a better version of ourselves.. We spoke about being able to draw our strength from God by looking at the following quote : “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Phillipians 4: 13.
