Worship Round Up
Friday 20th March 2026
Our weekly round-up aims to support our parents in the conversations that they are having at home with their children. Each week, we will share the themes of each of our worships and any resources that we have been using, such as: videos, books and music, to allow our parents to access these if they wish to. Our weekly worship is structured in the following way:
-
Mondays: Values worship led by Mrs Evans where each week we focus on a different school value (Commitment; Courage; Love) as a theme linking these to bible stories, quotes and our positive learning behaviours.
-
Tuesdays: These worships are led by Reverend Jen Houghton and will focus on the theme of men and women of Faith along with worships relating to the Church calendar.
-
Wednesdays: These worships are led by Mrs Griffin and respond to world events and days of significance in order that we are recognising God’s presence and power in our world today.
-
Thursdays: Singing Assembly led by Mrs Walker.
-
Fridays: Celebration Worship led by class teachers. Children are rewarded for upholding our school values during the week, class and team winners are announced and a thought or reflection for the week is shared.
Monday's Worship

On Monday we reflected on Matthew 5:14-16: “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." We thought about what it means for a person to 'shine' and agreed that this is when people are a positive role model for others. We thought about the words that we would like people to use to describe us and the fact that this is our 'character'. We heard about scientific studies into character development which had talked about people's character growing in 3 different ways overtime:
1. Practice - If we want to be known as kind, we must develop this by demonstrating kindness to others regularly.
2. People - We learn from the people around us so we must look for examples of the things that we want to develop, for example stories of Jesus as an example of how to show kindness and forgiveness.
3. Values - We must decide what is most important to us our 'values'. We talked about our school values of commitment, courage and love and other examples of values that we may each hold as important.
We then reflected on these questions:
I wonder…
•What kind of person do you want to be known as?
•What kind of person do you think God hopes you will become?
We closed worship with prayers and with this message:
Tuesday's Worship
This week, Vicar Jen shared some exciting news about the next Archbishop of Canterbury. Her name is Sarah Mullally, and she will officially start in her new role at Canterbury Cathedral on Wednesday, 25 March 2026. This is a huge moment in history because although Sarah will be the 106th Archbishop, she is the first woman to ever hold this top job. We learnt that for hundreds of years, only men were allowed to be senior leaders in the Church of England. It has taken a long time for things to change. Vicar Jen explained that Sarah used to be a Chief Nursing Officer for the NHS before she became a priest. Her new role means she will lead millions of people in the Anglican Church all around the world. To finish our session, we spent some time thinking about Sarah’s journey and the strength it takes to lead. We ended by reflecting on this question: "What beliefs do you have that you would not change, even if someone asked you to?"
Wednesday's Worship
This week, we have been celebrating Neurodiversity Week, a time dedicated to recognising and valuing the many different ways our brains can work. Instead of seeing conditions like autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, and others as challenges alone, this week encourages us to see the strengths, talents, and unique perspectives that neurodivergent people bring to our school and our world.
In our collective worship, we reflected on how every person is wonderfully made, how diversity enriches our community, and how we can show understanding, kindness, and respect to one another. Neurodiversity reminds us that there is no single “right” way to think or learn — and that our differences help us grow together. Genesis 1v27: "So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them."

Thursday's Worship
This week we were treated to performances by the school choir and band (including members of Recorder Club) who shared the pieces they have been working on this term.
The band played a piece called Egyptian Snake Dance. The choir sang 'Thank You for the Music' by Abba. We will be sharing this song, along with others, with the residents of the Royal Star & Garter home in May.
We prayed to thank God for music and how it can raise our spirits, as well as for the special talents that we all have.
We also had fabulous solo performances by Owen (trumpet) and Orla (piano) who have both taken grade exams recently on their instruments.
We finished with three worship songs:
Lord I Lift Your Name
Have You Heard
Lord of the Dance

Friday's Worship
In Friday's worship, we celebrated the team points winners for the week: Diamonds and Year 4. We also gave out our hot chocolate awards. We thought back to Monday's worship about developing our character and shining a positive light on others with our actions. We discussed the practical uses of light and how it helps us and impacts our emotions. In our talk partners, we shared ways we have been a "light" to others this week. Some of us had shown kindness at home and thought of ways that we can look out for others.
