Worship Round Up

Friday 19th June 2026

Our weekly round-up aims to support our parents in the conversations that they are having at home with their children. Each week, we will share the themes of each of our worships and any resources that we have been using, such as: videos, books and music, to allow our parents to access these if they wish to. Our weekly worship is structured in the following way:

Mondays: Values worship led by Mrs Evans where each week we focus on a different school value (Commitment; Courage; Love) as a theme linking these to bible stories, quotes and our positive learning behaviours.
Tuesdays: These worships are led by Reverend Jen Houghton and will focus on the theme of ‘What God is like and what God’s kingdom is like’.
Wednesdays: These worships are led by Mrs Griffin and respond to world events and days of significance in order that we are recognising God’s presence and power in our world today.
Thursdays: Singing Assembly led by Mrs Walker.
Fridays: Celebration Worship led by class teachers. Children are rewarded for upholding our school values during the week, class and team winners are announced and a thought or reflection for the week is shared.

Monday's Worship

In Monday's worship, we thought about technology. We considered the positive things that technology can do, such as helping us to communicate and connect with others and helping us to find things out and learn new things. We watched the trailer for Toy Story 5, as this new film has been created to explore the impact of technology on childhood: Toy Story 5 Trailer. After watching the trailer, we considered things that we might do more of if we did not have access to electronic devices. Some of the things we thought about were, spending more time outside, drawing, making things, playing with toys, completing jigsaws, cycling or doing other physical activities. We reflected on the message of Proverbs 4:23 "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." We thought the importance of taking time to put our digital devices down to experience some of the positive things that we had talked about and to ensure that we are filling our hearts with positive feelings and experiences. We talked about the announcement made that morning about the ban on certain social media apps for under 16s and the motivation of that being to guard the hearts of young people from things that do not have a positive impact. We closed worship with prayers led by the children.

Tuesday's Worship

In Tuesday's worship Reverend Jen talked about the Kingdom of God being like treasure hidden in a field. She asked two volunteers to open an envelope each, one envelope was sparkly but empty and the other was very plain but had some money inside. We thought about how the Kingdom of God can be the greatest treasure that you can find but it might not appear shiny at first. We thought about the things that we treasure and reflected on what is valuable to us.

Wednesday's Worship

This week, in singing worship, we learned a new song that the Year 6 children and staff will be singing at their Leavers Service at Southwark Cathedral in July: Ubi Caritas. This is based on a Gregorian chant from the 8th century and reminds us that where there are love and charity, there is God.

Thursday's Worship

On Thursday, we continued to explore the theme of Spirituality in worship. We reminded each other that spirituality is about "Faith and belief," "Belonging and connection," and "Big questions." Together, we thought about the ways in which we have felt full of faith, hope, confidence, and bravery. We also reflected on the times we have felt doubtful, unsure, worried, or questioning. To close, we reflected on the saying: “Faith helps us step forward. Doubt helps us think deeply. Together, they help us become wiser.” We then ended our worship with a prayer: "May we have the courage to ask questions, the strength to hold uncertainty, and the hope to keep growing. May we remember that faith and doubt are both part of our journey."

Friday's Worship

In Friday's worship, we celebrated the team points winners for the week: Year 3 and Rubies. We also gave out our hot chocolate awards. We revisited Monday’s worship about the positives and negatives of technology and how it shapes our week. We shared the ways we’ve used technology recently, as well as the moments we’ve stepped away from screens to enjoy the sunshine and be fully present. We ended with a reflection, each thinking of one thing we will do this weekend that doesn’t involve technology, and a prayer asking for guidance to use technology safely while making space for real connection with friends and family.
