Worship Round Up

Friday 19th April 2024

Our weekly round-up aims to support our parents in the conversations that they are having at home with their children. Each week, we will share the themes of each of our worships and any resources that we have been using, such as: videos, books and music, to allow our parents to access these if they wish to. Our weekly worship is structured in the following way:

  • Monday Worship Focus: Values Focus led by Mrs Evans who revisits one of our core values — Commitment, Courage and Love.
  • Tuesday Worship Focus: ‘Earth Heroes’ led by class teachers;
  • Wednesday Worship Focus: ‘What’s happening in the world this week?’ led by Mrs Griffin and focusing on key events that are taking place in the world currently;
  • Thursday Worship Focus: Singing led by Mrs Walker;
  • Friday Worship Focus: Celebration led by Mrs Gnanasri to celebrate the team points winners for the week and achievements from both inside and outside school with the pupils.

Monday's Worship

What is a marathon?

On Monday, we talked about the London Marathon - did you know that on average it takes 57,000 steps to complete it? We learnt about how the marathon was started and considered why people take part in this every year - since it began in 1981 over 1,000,000 people have completed this course. We then talked about the Olympics which will be taking place in France during the summer and I introduced the children to a challenge that we are setting the classes linked to their Daily Mile. We closed worship by considering which of our values are demonstrated by those who are running the marathon and reflected on the fact that whilst it is a race, many of these people run to challenge themselves and we considered how we can be setting ourselves challenges in the term ahead.

 Tuesday's Worship

Earth Day 2024

On Tuesday, we focused on Earth Day and why it plays such an important role today. We thought about how the earth is a shared environment and community where we all live. We talked about the idea that the earth provides us with a beautiful and diverse home but that some human activities can impact its delicate balance. We explored way in which climate change can be minimised by small actions such as reducing, reusing and recycling plastics; we could be energy conscious; we could plant more trees and we could think about how to be sustainable or smart with our resources. We talked about how each of our small actions can add up to create real and significant change. We introduced the book 'Earth Heroes' which will help us to focus on people who have taken action to save our Earth.

Wednesday's Worship

This week as we focussed on what's going on in our world. We considered the world at war. We identified places that we are aware of struggling with conflict and reflected on what we can do. We explored John 3v 16 ' For God so loved the world that he sent his only son'. We talked about how as part of our school development plan we've been considering  how we are all made in God's image. We shared some of the attributes of God and how we could work on these behaviour examples ourselves. We talk about  conflict and how we experience conflict and asked in prayer that God help us with these challenging situations.

Thursday's Worship

Singing

On Thursday, in singing worship, we began to learn the beautiful round 'Dona Nobis Pacem'. We talked about the meaning of this song in prayer ( grant us peace). We worked on singing collaboratively and focusing on how we can work together to create musical harmony. When each part of the song comes together - it gave us a real sense of peace.

Frday's Worship

During Friday's worship, Mrs Gnanasri shared the team points winner for the week, awarded the 'hot chocolate awards' given to pupils for demonstrating love in their actions and checked in on the progress that our classes have made in the 'Path to Paris' challenge. Well done to Year 5 who are currently in the lead!
