Worship Round Up
Friday 18th October 2024
Our weekly round-up aims to support our parents in the conversations that they are having at home with their children. Each week, we will share the themes of each of our worships and any resources that we have been using, such as: videos, books and music, to allow our parents to access these if they wish to. Our weekly worship is structured in the following way:
- Monday Worship Focus: Values Focus led by Mrs Evans who revisits one of our core values — Commitment, Courage and Love.
- Tuesday Worship Focus: ‘Earth Heroes’ led by class teachers;
- Wednesday Worship Focus: ‘What’s happening in the world this week?’ led by Mrs Griffin and focusing on key events that are taking place in the world currently;
- Thursday Worship Focus: Singing led by Mrs Walker;
- Friday Worship Focus: Celebration led by a member of the senior leadership team to celebrate the team points winners for the week and achievements from both inside and outside school with the pupils.
Monday's Worship
During Monday's worship, we shared the team points winners for the week -Year 4 for the class winners and Rubies for the team points - awarded the 'hot chocolate awards' given for demonstrating love in our actions and celebrated some of our pupils' achievements from outside of school. We continued to explore the idea of untold stories and sharing the whole narrative for Black History Month. We looked at Black heroes through this rap: https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/watch/cbbc-hq-black-history-month-rhys-rap . We then discussed black pioneers that we have already learnt about through our curriculum and then shared our own heroes in history.
Tuesday's Worship
On Tuesday, we learned about one of our earth heroes: Bittu Sahgal, a conservationist and creator of India’s two most famous naturalist publications – Sanctuary Asia and Sanctuary Club (for children). Bittu was born in 1947 and changed schools eight times due to his father’s governmental job. During a camping trip with a friend, he saw his first tiger and from that moment Bittu became an ardent supporter of tiger conservation. Tiger numbers dropped to 1,400, today there are 3,900 tigers in the wild. The school joined in with a characteristic style, chanting with great enthusiasm, “Save the tiger! Save the jungle!”. We can all live in hope of a brighter future, as Bittu teaches us that with the right conditions the land will heal itself and the animals will return.
Wednesday's Worship
On Wednesday the Faith Reps led us in considering the wonders and challenges that technology can present. We watched how this week the SpaceX Starship was able to manoeuvre back to earth in a chopstick movement and in doing so not polluting the ocean but providing pioneer reusable technology. We went on to consider that tech can be both beneficial to us but can also prove to be really distracting too and that we need to make sure that we are present enjoying the unseen as we read in 2 Corinthians 4v18For we fix our attention, not on things that are seen, but on things that are unseen. What can be seen lasts only for a time, but what cannot be seen lasts for ever. Thursday's Worship
Singing
This week, we practised 'That's Who I Praise' by Brandon Lake. In addition to Jesus, the song mentions other people from the Bible: David, Paul, Silas, Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, Moses and Mary. We identified them, learnt a little about each person and heard why they are referenced in the worship song.
Friday's Worship
During Friday's worship, we shared the team points winners for the week - Year 2 for the class winners and Sapphire for the team points - awarded the 'hot chocolate awards' given for demonstrating love in our actions and celebrated some of our pupils' achievements from outside of school. We continued to explore the idea of untold stories and sharing the whole narrative for Black History Month. We looked at Betty Campbell the first black headteacher in Wales. As well as being a teacher, Betty was also an important influence in establishing Black History Month in the UK. We then reflected on why Betty continued to strive towards her goal and taught her students about her struggles. We revisited the idea of sitting in the uncomfortable being really important. Even if its hard to share or hear, we learn incredibly valuable lessons from the past and can use them to be beacons of love in our lives today.
