Worship Round Up
Friday 15th November 2024
Our weekly round-up aims to support our parents in the conversations that they are having at home with their children. Each week, we will share the themes of each of our worships and any resources that we have been using, such as: videos, books and music, to allow our parents to access these if they wish to. Our weekly worship is structured in the following way:
- Monday Worship Focus: Values Focus led by Mrs Evans who revisits one of our core values — Commitment, Courage and Love.
- Tuesday Worship Focus: ‘Earth Heroes’ led by class teachers;
- Wednesday Worship Focus: ‘What’s happening in the world this week?’ led by Mrs Griffin and focusing on key events that are taking place in the world currently;
- Thursday Worship Focus: Singing led by Mrs Walker;
- Friday Worship Focus: Celebration led by a member of the senior leadership team to celebrate the team points winners for the week and achievements from both inside and outside school with the pupils.
Monday's Worship
On Monday, Faith Reps led our worship on Remembrance. We started with a memory game in which the whole school had to recall which cherished item belonged to our Faith Reps. They reiterated how remembering items or people we love are a way of showing that we value our past and still draw strength or reflect on them in our day to day lives. We watched a video on Remembrance to help us to understand what the soldiers experienced and what they ultimately gave their lives for.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
We discussed how by remembering their bravery, we could also be better at creating a peaceful world starting with ourselves. We also listened to the last post which helped us to reflect and take time to appreciate the past as well as think about our own lives and peace for all.
Tuesday's Worship
On Tuesday, we gathered as a community and we reflected on the idea of gratitude. We thought about how we could identify what we were grateful for in our lives and what we appreciate about others in our lives. We spent time sharing our thoughts and respectfully listening to one another and noticing the similarities in the things we values in our community. We were able to think about how sharing our gratitude also brings us closer as a community and how it allows us to demonstrate the value of love. By sharing our own gratitude, we were able to give thanks for those who show up for us and feel loved by those we show up for too.
Wednesday's Worship
On Wednesday, Insight led worship introducing our lead up to Christmas. We thought about the idea of receiving presents and how we respond when we are given something that we do not expect but actually might need. We were shown a bag that was empty but then when we looked again Susie was able to pull out lots of gifts from the bag. We looked at the idea of God promising presents in the form of three couples: Abraham and Sarah, Mary and Joseph and Elizabeth and Zechariah. All three couples were not expecting a baby but had been promised by God that they would have a child. They waited with faith and the baby arrived to enrich their lives. We explored how God always thinks about what we need and whilst it may not be expected - it is what we may need.
Thursday's Worship
Singing
In singing worship this week, we practised some songs for our Christmas performances: 'Hallelujah', 'Here Comes the Snow', 'Entre le boeuf et l'ane gris' and 'O Little Town of Bethlehem'. We also heard Owen play the Last Post on his trumpet. We talked about how it is often played in remembrance services to remember people who died in the war.
Friday's Worship
During Friday's worship, we shared the team points winners for the week -Year 1 for the class winners and Rubies for the team points - awarded the 'hot chocolate awards' given for demonstrating love in our actions and celebrated some of our pupils' achievements from outside of school including a number of Blue Peter badges. We continued to explore how we strengthen our brain and develop our growth mindset. We looked at how team work helps us to problem solve and develops our growth mindset by offering different perspectives. We watched a video of elephants working together to problem solve and decided effective teamwork includes the following: participating fully, looking at each other, giving each other time and encouraging one another. We finished by looking at the following bible verse : “Therefore, encourage one another and build one another up" - Thessalonians 5: 11.
