Worship Round Up

Friday 14th February 2025

Our weekly round-up aims to support our parents in the conversations that they are having at home with their children. Each week, we will share the themes of each of our worships and any resources that we have been using, such as: videos, books and music, to allow our parents to access these if they wish to. Our weekly worship is structured in the following way: 

• Monday Worship Focus: Values Focus led by Mrs Evans who revisits one of our core values — Commitment, Courage and Love. 
• Tuesday Worship Focus: 'Women in STEM’ led by class teachers using 'Great Women who Worked Wonders' by Kate Pankhurst;
• Wednesday Worship Focus: ‘What’s happening in the world this week?’ led by Mrs Griffin and focusing on key events that are taking place in the world currently;
• Thursday Worship Focus: Singing led by Mrs Walker;
• Friday Worship Focus: Celebration led by Mrs Gnanasri to celebrate the team points winners for the week and achievements from both inside and outside school with the pupils.

Monday's Worship

In worship on Monday, we talked about doing the right thing even when no one is watching. Mrs Evans shared the new playground equipment that has been purchased and explained that we want to focus on improving the interactions in our playground and ensure that every child can be active. We talked about the importance of using the equipment in the right way and demonstrating love in our actions towards one another everyday even when no one is there saying well done for making a good choice. We talked about the fact that you can feel a reward inside from behaving in this way and that by making these good choices we can fill one another's buckets. 

Tuesday's  Worship

In Worship on Tuesday we reflected on how well we had been filling each other’s buckets. We then read the story Dot. We reflected on what it is to be brave and resilient and our part in seeing others efforts and encourage them. In our prayers we thanked God for people we have in our lives who encourage us and have confidence in us even when we struggle to see our potential. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. 

Wednesday's Worship

On Wednesday, we continued to explore wonderful women in STEM. Our key figure this week was Tu Youyou. Tu Youyou is a Chinese scientist. She is known for discovering a drug that helps treat malaria. Malaria is a serious disease that is spread by mosquitoes. For her work, Tu was one of three scientists awarded the 2015 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine. She was the first citizen of the People’s Republic of China to win a Nobel prize in that category and the first Chinese woman to win a Nobel prize in any category. She was ill as a teenager and therefore spent a long time in hospitals. We discussed how she focused on how she could help others with challenges rather than being overwhelmed by the challenges she faced. We also discussed how her work on ancient herbs shows that we should value and appreciate lessons from the past as well as think about how we can always strive for better with each other.

We also listened to Stargazing by Myles Smith, performed by our fabulous school band. 

One of our faith reps led us in prayer, thanking God that we are able to come together to sing and play music.

Friday's Worship

During Friday's worship, we shared the team points winners for the week - Year 5  for the class winners and Sapphires for the team points - awarded the 'hot chocolate awards' given for demonstrating love in our actions and celebrated some of our pupils' achievements from outside of school. We started discussing how we can also earn our bronze SPARK book award soon! This term, we are reflecting on the importance of being aware of the impact we can have on one another in the school. We had some beautiful reflections on how we can already get involved in the SPARK book awards with our poetry competition. We discussed the idea of being a light in the world. We discussed how light is seen in many religions and how the idea of being a light to influence others is seen across the world. We considered how we can lift those around us too.
