Worship Round Up
Friday 13th September 2024
Our weekly round-up aims to support our parents in the conversations that they are having at home with their children. Each week, we will share the themes of each of our worships and any resources that we have been using, such as: videos, books and music, to allow our parents to access these if they wish to. Our weekly worship is structured in the following way:
- Monday Worship Focus: Values Focus led by Mrs Evans who revisits one of our core values — Commitment, Courage and Love.
- Tuesday Worship Focus: ‘Earth Heroes’ led by class teachers;
- Wednesday Worship Focus: ‘What’s happening in the world this week?’ led by Mrs Griffin and focusing on key events that are taking place in the world currently;
- Thursday Worship Focus: Singing led by Mrs Walker;
- Friday Worship Focus: Celebration led by a member of the senior leadership team to celebrate the team points winners for the week and achievements from both inside and outside school with the pupils.
Monday's Worship
This week we have begun exploring British Values: Indvidual Liberty, Democracy, Rule of Law and Mutual Respect & Tolerance. Today we focused on 'Individual Liberty' and considered what it means: being able to make our own choices and have our own ideas and beliefs. We considered if this means that we can just do whatever we want and agreed that we can't. We reflected on Galatians 5v13-14 "My brothers, God called you to be free. But do not use your freedom as an excuse to do the things that please your sinful self. Serve each other with love." and the fact that we are called to consider others and not just ourselves in our daily lives. Next week we will be thinking about what this looks like in action everyday. We closed worship with prayers led by the children.
Tuesday's Worship
On Tuesday, we re-introduced the 'Earth Heroes' book by Lily Dyi. We spoke about how she was inspired by the natural world and its wonders. We recapped all the earth hero champions we have previously looked at and reflected on the impact that each person's actions had as well as how they inspired further action in their own communities. We discussed how each of us has the potential to make a difference with small actions as Earth Heroes too.
Wednesday's Worship
On Wednesday, we introduced our Year Six Faith Reps and they led a worship to help us understand that we are all made in God's image. We used a visual prompt with the sock challenge in which Mr Davies and Mrs Gnanasri had 1 minute to pin up as many different socks as possible. When we stepped back and observed the socks on display - we discussed that whilst all the socks were varied and different - they all served the same purpose. This linked to our key thought that we are all different and that's what makes us the same, made in God's image. We were also introduced to an exciting system with the whole school's names in a jar to draw out volunteers to assist in future worships too ensuring that we are hearing all voices. Well done to the Faith Reps for a fantastic worship.
Thursday's Worship
Singing
During singing worship this week, we listened to My Lighthouse, chosen by Year 5, as we walked in. We began practising three songs to prepare for our Harvest Service: Big Red Combine Harvester, Harvest Song and Conkers. In the spirit of giving thanks, children prayed to thank God for the good things we have.
Friday's Worship
During Friday's worship, we shared the team points winners for the week - Year 1 for the class winners and Rubies for the team points - awarded the 'hot chocolate awards' given for demonstrating love in our actions and celebrated some of our pupils' achievements from outside of school. We also considered how we could be grateful for what we have and continue to work on our goals. We spoke about being able to draw our strength from God by looking at the following quote : “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Phillipians 4: 13.
