Worship Round Up
Friday 11th October 2024
Our weekly round-up aims to support our parents in the conversations that they are having at home with their children. Each week, we will share the themes of each of our worships and any resources that we have been using, such as: videos, books and music, to allow our parents to access these if they wish to. Our weekly worship is structured in the following way:
- Monday Worship Focus: Values Focus led by Mrs Evans who revisits one of our core values — Commitment, Courage and Love.
- Tuesday Worship Focus: ‘Earth Heroes’ led by class teachers;
- Wednesday Worship Focus: ‘What’s happening in the world this week?’ led by Mrs Griffin and focusing on key events that are taking place in the world currently;
- Thursday Worship Focus: Singing led by Mrs Walker;
- Friday Worship Focus: Celebration led by a member of the senior leadership team to celebrate the team points winners for the week and achievements from both inside and outside school with the pupils.
Monday's Worship
This week in worship we discussed the news that some companies are making their employees come back into the office 5 days a week as they believe that they will benefit from the human interactions. We reflected on this and began by thinking about things that we can do alone and things that can only be done with others. In KS1, we then asked the children to consider whether they prefer doing things with others or alone and why and in KS2 we asked them to consider if interactions over the computer or phone are the same as in person and why? We ended worship by reflecting on the importance of good interactions in building strong relationships and thought about how we can build these strong relationships in school.
Tuesday's Worship
On Tuesday we learned about one of our earth heroes: Ellen MacArthur. She enjoyed sailing growing up and, in 2005, won a race sailing around the world. Whilst sailing, she noticed nature around her. Ellen began thinking about how humans often use resources and then throw them away. She wanted to create a way to use the world's resources that doesn't use them up. To help reduce landfill, she set up the Ellen MacArthur Foundation which researches ways to rent appliances and then return them to be repaired. This way, they can be used again. We reflected on what we could do to reuse items too.
Wednesday's Worship
On Wednesday we considered the hardest things to say. We briefly talked about the conflicts that are taking place in the world. We talked about how saying sorry is difficult. We also reflected on how important it is and admitting when we are in the wrong. We reflected on how hard it can be to forgive someone. We listened to the Story of Jonah and the Whale. We asked God to help us be brave and apologise and see strength in saying sorry for what we have done.
Thursday's Worship
Singing
This week, we heard the choir sing 'Fireflies' by Owl City as we walked into singing worship. We sang some of our favourite worship songs about togetherness and belonging: Together, Living and Learning and Give It All You Got. We prayed to ask God to help us work and play well together.
