Worship Round Up

Friday 10th October 2025

Our weekly round-up aims to support our parents in the conversations that they are having at home with their children. Each week, we will share the themes of each of our worships and any resources that we have been using, such as: videos, books and music, to allow our parents to access these if they wish to. Our weekly worship is structured in the following way: 

• Mondays: Values worship led by Mrs Evans where each week we focus on a different school value (Commitment; Courage; Love) as a theme linking these to bible stories, quotes and our positive learning behaviours.

• Tuesdays: Themed worships led by class teachers. The theme for this term is: ‘Ordinary Kids with Extraordinary Stories’ using the book ‘Rise Up’. Worship will focus on ‘Resilience and the message of Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ because he gives me strength.”

• Wednesdays: These worships are led by Mrs Griffin and respond to world events and days of significance in order that we are recognising God’s presence and power in our world today.

• Thursdays: Singing Assembly led by Mrs Walker.

• Fridays: Celebration Worship led by Mrs Evans. Children are rewarded for upholding our school values during the week, class and team winners are announced and a thought or reflection for the week is shared.

Monday's Worship

In worship on Monday, we launched our Black History Month work. As a school, we are all looking at different British black artists and how their art has been influential. We began by looking at the theme of Black History Month this year which is Standing Firm in Power and Pride.  We spoke about how the theme links back to resilience and strength found in black communities around the world and the lessons we can draw from both historical key figures and current figures too. We then explored the story of Mary Prince. Mary Prince was an enslaved Black woman born in Bermuda whose autobiography, The History of Mary Prince (1831), was the first account by a Black woman to be published in Britain. We explored that by speaking up and sharing her story (which was painful), she inspired others to create a change and challenged people to think about the experience of someone else. We reflected on the importance of showing love in our actions by championing equality for all and celebrating our differences. We closed in prayer asking God to help us be empathetic, kind and show resilience in our day to day life creating equality for all. 

Tuesday's Worship

In Tuesday’s worship, we joined an online assembly focused on Black History Month. We listened to people sharing some of the challenges that Black people still face today and considered how we can help to stop this from happening. We reflected on the story of Rosa Parks and why this was such an important occasion in history. Some celebrities shared their stories of challenges they have faced and how they have overcome this. 

Wednesday's Worship

On Wednesday, our Faith Reps led a worship based on Prince William's Earth Shot prize. The prize encourages young people to think outside of the box with creative solutions to combat climate change and the damage to the earth's environment. This was inspired by the Moon Shot project which challenged astronauts and astronomers to land a rocket on the moon within ten years. We looked at how we can impact the world around us and how God gave us the job of being custodians who cherish and nurture the Earth. We then looked at how in school, we could challenge ourselves to be more sustainable by not wasting food, turning off lights and picking up any litter, in our environments. We spoke about the ability of young people, like in our school community, who can make impactful changes by working collaboratively and showing our school values.  

Thursday's Worship

We began preparations for Christmas events in singing worship this week, in particular the performances at Trafalgar Square and John Lewis that some of the older members of the school choir will be involved in.

We learned the songs 'I Saw Three Ships' and 'Somewhere in My Memory'. 

We finished by singing a couple of our favourite contemporary worship songs, 'City on a Hill' and 'The Blessing'.

Friday's Worship

In Friday's worship, we celebrated the team points winners for the week: Sapphires and Year 3. We also gave out our hot chocolate awards and looked at two new entries in the 'Good News Book'.  We then revisited our worships from Monday and Tuesday which focused on Black History Month - the theme this year is 'Standing Firm in Power and Pride'. We watched a video about John Blanke who is one of the first black people that we know about in British history: video who was a trumpeter for King Henry VII and King Henry VIII in the Tudor period. We listened to his story and considered how John demonstrated our school values of commitment, courage and love during his life.
