Worship Round Up

Friday 10th May 2024

Our weekly round-up aims to support our parents in the conversations that they are having at home with their children. Each week, we will share the themes of each of our worships and any resources that we have been using, such as: videos, books and music, to allow our parents to access these if they wish to. Our weekly worship is structured in the following way:

  • Monday Worship Focus: Values Focus led by Mrs Evans who revisits one of our core values — Commitment, Courage and Love.
  • Tuesday Worship Focus: ‘Earth Heroes’ led by class teachers;
  • Wednesday Worship Focus: ‘What’s happening in the world this week?’ led by Mrs Griffin and focusing on key events that are taking place in the world currently;
  • Thursday Worship Focus: Singing led by Mrs Walker;
  • Friday Worship Focus: Celebration led by Mrs Gnanasri to celebrate the team points winners for the week and achievements from both inside and outside school with the pupils.

 Tuesday's Worship

In worship on Tuesday, we continued our series of 'Earth Heroes' worships. We began with Genesis 2v15 "The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it." We learnt about Stella McCartney - a fashion designer with a desire to make the fashion industry more environmentally friendly. Stella was brought up as a vegetarian. During her training, she would not use any materials that were created from animals - such as feathers or leather - which limited the materials that she had access to, but this did not hold her back. As she has become more and more successful, Stella has become even more determined to make clothes that are long-lasting and created from materials that are cruelty free, such as fabrics made from plastic bottles. Stella also believes that reusing and reselling clothing is something that more people should be encouraged to do. We closed worship by considering how we could do this within our community.

Wednesday's Worship

In worship on Wednesday, we focused on 'Deaf Awareness Week'. During worship we focused on these key questions:

  • What does it mean to say someone is deaf?
  • How do people with hearing loss communicate?
  • What is British Sign Language?
  • What can I do to support people with hearing loss?

Thursday's Worship

In Singing Worship, KS1 and KS2 performed to each other the songs they have been learning for the choirs to sing at the Summer Fair. With a Eurovision theme, KS1 sang "Love Shine a Light" and KS2 sang "Space Man". We looked at the logo for each country - a heart filled with the country's flag - and discussed why the designers might have chosen this logo. The children came up with some fantastic ideas, including that we should show love to everyone from all countries and that the logos are all the same shape to show that, wherever we come from, we are the same.

Friday's Worship

During Friday's worship, Mrs Gnanasri shared the team points winners for the week (Year 1 for the class winners and Ruby for the team points), awarded the 'hot chocolate awards' given for demonstrating love in our actions and celebrated some of our pupils' achievements from outside of school. She also checked in on the progress that our classes have made in the 'Path to Paris' challenge. Well done to Year 5 Falcon's who have won our Path to Paris competition, earning their extra play time.
