Year 5 Visit to Hampton Court Palace

The Palace - Hampton Court Palace Festival

On Wednesday 1st October, Year 5 visited Hampton Court Palace as part of our current History topic - The Tudors. We followed a trail through the King's apartments and thought about what daily life would have been like in the Royal Court. We discovered the 'eavesdropper' carvings on the ceiling of the great hall which were put there to remind servants that they were always being listened to and got a chance to visit the chapel. We also took part in a workshop in the kitchens where we learnt about the foods that were enjoyed by the king, the true meaning of a 'banquet' and discovered some misconceptions about food that the Tudors did and didn't have access to. It was a brilliant day and really brought what we have been learning to life!
