Year 3 and Year 4 Author Visit

During World Book Week, we had the pleasure of meeting David Owen- the author of the Alex Neptune series. He spoke to KS2 classes about his inspirations, his early life and goals and his future ambitions too. He did all of this alongside getting us to ask our questions about being an author. David started to explain that since his childhood he has been fascinated with life in the ocean. He gave us some interesting statistics to consider including the fact that we have discovered more about space than the our own oceans. He got us to consider how some deep sea creatures could inspire us.  David Owen explained that he draws inspiration from his love for classic adventure tales and his desire to create characters that children can look up to—heroes who are courageous, clever, and kind. He often combines elements of mythology, science fiction, and real-life adventures to build his unique and captivating worlds. David’s goal with our session was to spark curiosity and encourage us to explore their own imaginations, just like Alex Neptune does in his daring escapades. He heard him read excerpts from his book and he then illustrated and created our own pirates too!
