Year 2 Visit Kingston Mosque

Year 2 really enjoyed our trip to the Mosque. First, we took our shoes off when we arrived because that is respectful. Mecca is important to Muslims and every Mosque has a mihrab which points towards Mecca and is the direction Muslims pray. The Imam leads prayers in Arabic in the Mosque. Muslims pray in rows very close together. The men pray downstairs and the women pray separately upstairs.  Next, we learnt some of the Arabic alphabet and said it aloud. After that, we got a chance to do ‘wudu’ which is washing ourselves in a special way before prayer – we got a bit wet! Then, we dressed up in the clothes Muslims wear and looked through some of the Qur’ans. Finally, Jan showed us some pictures of famous Mosques around the world.
