Sublime Science Worship and Workshops
During Science Week, we were visited by Sublime Science. During this time, our visiting scientist (Kieran) delivered a whole school assembly where he asked us to consider the difference between science and magic. With the help of lots of students, we deduced that scientists allow us to deduce how tricks are created and why phenomena happen. He then demonstrated a trick with some disappearing water in cups before revealing to us that it was done with superabsorbent polymer; SAP is made of tiny crystals that can trap water and turn it into a gel. The polymer hidden in the cups of waters worked like a sponge, quickly pulling in liquid and locking it away. In our class workshops, we then considered many smaller experiments including making Elephant's toothpaste for Year 5 and 6. In Year 3 and 4, we considered how to use forces in motion with rockets. In KS1, we looked at optical illusions as well as trying our hand at finding camouflaged animals too.
