Year 6 is a time when the children continue to develop and extend their knowledge, skills and interpersonal skills, allowing them to be ready for transition to secondary school, and becoming young adults.

Throughout this year, the pupils are encouraged to continue to explore higher level thinking skills, show resilience in their learning and work towards personal targets that allow the children to gain their maximum educational potential in each area of the curriculum.

The children learn through a creative curriculum that includes the consolidation and progression of basic skills that are essential for school and in life, challenging written texts, investigational reasoning, historical facts, successfully approaching change and moving on, the importance of faith through the study of saints and peace and the learning of the arts.

As you will be aware, the children are required to take part in the year 6 SATs assessments. This will consist of both written papers and teacher assessment, which takes place throughout the year. During their time in year 6, the children will be set a variety of learning experiences which will prepare them for theses assessments. A meeting will be held later in the year to give you more information about the SATs process.
